Top 5 Resolutions for Personal Health

Every year we make our New Year’s resolutions. Some may resolve to quit a bad habit, like smoking, and others may resolve to lose weight and get into shape. No matter what we choose as our resolution, all that truly matters is whether we achieve our goal. For 2012, I resolve to achieve the following personal health resolutions, and I will not quit halfway through the year.

Eating habits

After my annual physical in June, I did some research and realized that I was eating too many carbohydrates and not enough protein. I also realized how bad processed foods are. As a result, I have quit eating as many crackers and bread as I used to do, and now I eat more protein. For instance, I eat an egg for breakfast instead of a piece of toast. I can definitely tell a difference in my energy level when I eat the egg versus the piece of toast. I have quit buying processed foods as much as I can. I resolve to continue these eating habits into 2012 because I realize how much better I feel.

Fruit and vegetables

In addition to my eating habits above, I am trying to eat more fruits and vegetables. I do already opt for frozen versus canned vegetables. Frozen vegetables are as close to the real thing as you can get. I would like to eat more fresh fruits, but sometimes that is hard to do in the winter season when fresh fruits are not as readily available. I resolve to eat more fruits and vegetables and keep this going through the entire year, including winter.

Exercise

I have always been bad about maintaining an exercise routine, and it is probably just as important, if not more so, when it comes to good health. I find the summer to be the best time for me to exercise. We have a huge swimming pool that my children and I use quite a bit. I also tend to walk more in the summer. Walking in the cold just doesn’t appeal to me. We did get a Wii a couple of years ago, and I use the Wii Fit in the winter time. However, I do not use it as much as I should. I resolve to exercise at least two, if not, three times a week in 2012.

Less stress

I have a knack for letting things get to me no matter what part of my life it involves. For the most part, I utilize my writing and my scrapbooking as a means of relieving these stresses, and I try my best to let the little things go without them bothering me too much. I resolve to use my two hobbies in the upcoming year as a means of relieving the stress that I do encounter.

Enjoy life

The key to good health is enjoying life. If you are not happy with whom you are, then your health suffers. I try my best to let the little things go and to enjoy the moment. I want to remember the good memories, memories that are sure to keep me happy. I resolve to be happy and enjoy life to the fullest.

For the past couple of years, I have resolved to lose weight and get into better shape, and every year I seem to make it a little farther into the year than I did the previous year. However, in 2012, I am finally hoping that I achieve my personal health resolutions without stopping along the way.
