Tips for Improving Your Child’s Manners

It is at a young age that you can mold a person into what he or she will become in the future. The way to this is no easy road though. Teaching your child how to behave properly in public, at the table, and even in your own home definitely is a hard task for a parent. There are different ways for improving your child’s manners though, and most of these have proven to be very effective as claimed by other parents as well. The way to find out though is by trying them out yourself. The following tips for improving your child’s manners might help you get started on this not-so-easy task.

Be a Role Model

This probably sounds too cliche for you, but it is the most effective method that you can try. Children like to mimic people a lot. So how you behave around your child will reflect on his or her behavior, that’s for sure. They might or might not be doing this consciously, but what counts is that you should display the proper behavior that you expect them to learn. It is important to always speak with the golden language: please, thank you, you’re welcome. Treating your child with the right behavior will teach them how to treat other people too.

Refrain From Yelling

Yelling will only teach your child to yell back. It will also only give you a headache and a sore throat and can leave you with a hoarse voice later on. Talk to your child instead and tell them why their behavior is inappropriate. That way, they can understand you and will be open to your teachings. It will also show and teach them the good manners that you possess by not embarrassing them or shouting at them in public.

If they’re trying to get attention, ignore them!

Children love to be showered with attention and one way to get this is by displaying negative behaviors. If they do this, do not give them any attention. Ignore them and they’ll learn that the bad behavior is useless and will not get them any attention.

Positive is Always Better

Give positive reinforcements for all good behavior your child demonstrates. It is better that way and will give them good childhood memories of you. But if they ever do something that’s beyond bad, proper punishment should definitely be given.
