The boys in your life will absolutely love this great dead fish hat from Thelma Egberts on Knitty. As written the pattern is for a dead fish hat, but with a simple substitution you can turn the hat into a live fish if you prefer. The pattern comes in one size, which will fit both kids and adults.

The pattern is very well written, and easy to follow using basic knitting abbreviations. While the hat looks complicated, it is made up of stockinette stitches.

Bex at Chile Con Yarne shares a great pattern for an awesome Viking Hat. The original hat pattern is written for a baby aged six to nine months and is written with ear flaps. Additions to the pattern include alternate instructions for the horns, instructions on how to add pig tails, and instructions on how to increase the pattern into an adult size Viking hat.

The pattern listing on Ravelry is rated four and a half stars by Ravelry users, and has a low average difficulty rating. The pattern itself is very well written, and uses basic knitting abbreviations.
