The Range Rover Evoque 2012

Land Rover has gone with a lighter design for Range Rover Evoque 2012.

A new version of Land Rover’s iconic Range Rover is tipped to bow in late 2012, and some major changes appear to be in store. The next Range Rover, which will likely carry a 2013 designation, promises to be lighter, more fuel efficient and more luxurious than the current car. In addition to better packaging, the new platform will result in a dramatic weight reduction. Combined with composite material for pieces like the front wings and rear lift gate, the next Range Rover should tip the scales at 990 pounds lighter than the current rig.

Although the current interior of the Range Rover isn’t exactly bargain basement, Land Rover will reportedly put an even great emphasis on overall luxury. Land Rover designers are using Bentley as a benchmark, relying on only the finest interior materials.

It remains to be seen if Land Rover will offer a diesel version of the Range Rover in the United States, but the current crop of V8 power trains should remain on offer.

Keeping true to the Land Rover name, the next Range Rover will be fully capable off-road. The 2013 Range Rover will feature beefed up suspension mounts, as well as transfer boxes at the front and rear axles.

My main focus is on the “lighter” part. I’m praying that the next 15 years will see American market cars return to a more sensible weight. Over 5000lbs for a truck/SUV or over 3000lbs for a Sedan is ludicrous.

The Range Rover Evoque brings the acclaimed Land Rover’s LRX concept car into production reality, faithfully capturing the original design of this landmark coupe concept.

Keeping with the ethos of Range Rover, the Range Rover Evoque delivers premium levels of craftsmanship, luxury, performance and renowned Land Rover multi-terrain capability into a more compact package.

Sustainability

The Range Rover Evoque is the lightest, most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever. It is a strong demonstration of the marque’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Lightweight construction techniques ensure optimum efficiency is achieved. A new state-of-the-art engine comes with turbocharging and direct injection. The Range Rover Evoque also adopts low CO2 systems such as Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) and is built to maximize end of life recyclability.

A lower driving position offers a more sporting feel but retains the important Command Driving Position. Headroom is generous compared with traditional sporting sedans, despite the low-profile coupe roofline.

Dynamics

On the open road, the Range Rover Evoque offers a polished driving experience that combines dynamic and sporty handling with responsive, effortless performance and refinement.

Powertrain

The turbocharged powertrain of the Range Rover Evoque offers smooth and responsive performance, blending four-cylinder efficiency with six-cylinder refinement and power.

A new 240bhp, 2.0-litre Si4 engine combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional drivability and fuel efficiency.
