The Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover: A Great Inexpensive Skillet for All Your Cooking Needs

Electric skillets can come in very handy and work just as well as a stove, so it can easily become a more convenient way of cooking food. When my stove went out I decided to buy an electric skillet to use every day instead of spending the money on replacing it, but there are so many on the market it was hard to know which one would benefit me the most. After much consideration I decided to purchase the Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover. Here is a review on the Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover, which I would highly recommend for anyone looking at an electric skillet.

I bought the Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover through Amazon about six months ago, and it was the best decision I have ever made. One reason why I decided to go with this particular skillet was because it was priced very reasonable at just under $40, which is not bad considering it is 16-inches in length. I was looking for a bigger skillet because I had previously owned a 12-inch skillet and it just did not give me enough room to cook everything at once and I like making a lot of food so there are leftovers for later meals. This skillet measures 23-inches by 13-inches by 9-inches all around so it is a pretty big skillet and it is also 1500-watts. I had to place it on top of the broken stove and it fits perfectly and does not move easily because of the weight so it will not slide around where you place it. As far as the cooking area the skillet measures 16-inches by 13-inches so there is a lot of room for cooking, roasting, baking and making casseroles all in one huge skillet. It also comes with a Control Master heat control, a glass cover, side handles and a knob on the glass cover that does not absorb the heat. It comes with the non-stick coating both on the inside and out and it made from heavy cast aluminum so it is durable and also very reliable for all your cooking needs.

When considering a skillet my main concern was that it was made for everyday use since it was replacing my stove and this skillet has performed above all my expectations in that department. I use this skillet every day whether I am cooking hamburgers or making chicken and it even allows me to roast pork with potatoes and carrots. There was also not a lot of assembly to this skillet either, you just pull it out of the box and use a Phillips screwdriver to install the handles on the sides. The handles are great because you can pick up the skillet and not have to worry about getting burned because they are far enough away that your arms will not hit the actual skillet. The only bad thing about the handles is that they seem to come loose every few weeks after continual use so you have to tighten them every now and again to keep it tight. I love the fact that the skillet is so big that you can really cook just about anything it in and not have to worry about running out of room. I have found the size to be especially great when cooking potatoes because you can cut over 20 potatoes and still have room for more in the skillet. The non-stick coating is also nice because I do not have to use oil or butter before putting food into it and the coating has yet to even wear off after being used over 400 times. The coating also does not come off on the food like some skillets do so you do not taste the coating, which is nice compared to the skillet I previously owned. The best part about cooking in the skillet is that the temperature control has a lot of settings ranging from low to high and also gives you the degrees in Fahrenheit so you can see what temperature to use for the type of food you are cooking. Generally, I set most meat items to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and it will cook the food in less than an hour and potatoes are always ready within 30 minutes.

Washing the skillet is a little difficult for me because I have small hands and a small sink. The skillet can be awkward washing it because it is so big that you have to keep one side of the skillet up while washing it out and then switch the end that is under the water. One really good thing about the Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover is that if you have a dishwasher you can safely put the skillet in there without messing it up, as long as you remove the heat control beforehand. Cleaning the skillet really is a breeze and food does not get stuck on the skillet at all, although after a year or two the non-stick coating will probably begin to flake off as most of them do. I just really love this skillet because it is so large that you can cook whatever you want in it and not have to worry about uneven cooking or running out of room for larger meals. You can even set the skillet out and use it as a buffet tray server if you have a party or large event planned and it does not look bad either. The lid is really sturdy and I have actually dropped it on the kitchen floor before without it breaking, so it seems like it is durable to withstand minor falls. The only problem with the lid is that the knob will also become loose like the handles after prolonged use, so you will have to turn it in order to tighten it once in a while.

I highly recommend the Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover for anyone looking for a great electric skillet without spending too much money in the process. If you have a large family or just like cooking bigger meals then this is definitely worth every penny, or if you do not have a stove and need something that can handle everyday cooking. I have cooked a lot of meals in this skillet over the past six months and have been nothing short of amazed at how well the food gets cooked and how fast the food cooks, so the heat controls and sensors work like a charm. If you are looking for an inexpensive skillet that does everything and more, the Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover would be the perfect choice.
