The Devil Inside: First Scare or Flop of the Year?

The Devil Inside is one of the many anticipated horror movies starting off 2012. Jumping on the Paranormal Activity bandwagon, this “mockumentary” follows a woman, Isabella, trying to figure out the reasons underlying the murders committed by her mother during her exorcism. The trailer seemed to do a good job in persuading many viewers, including me, to go watch this movie opening day and indulge in horrific events that will leave us shaking. However, the movie itself failed to provide additional thrills that were not shown in the trailer. Rather than it being a preview of the movie, the scenes in the trailer are as far as the scary scenes go.

I normally ignore movie ratings by Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb primarily for the fact that everyone has different tastes when it comes to levels of entertainment. Some movies I enjoyed were given poor ratings by either sites, or vice versa. This confusion is especially more common in horror movies. Despite the usual concern, the poor ratings you see on such sites are…completely accurate! Although the beginning of this film was nerve-wracking and built up tension as well as suspense, it failed to execute the buildup in the remaining scenes. All in all, if you are still curious as to how this movie is, it would be best to wait until it comes out in the Instant Queue section on Netflix.
