Thanksgiving Floral Pumpkin Centerpiece

You wouldn’t be the first person to put a pumpkin or two on your Thanksgiving table as the centerpiece. After all, pumpkins symbolize fall and their colors are just so appropriate for Thanksgiving. Throw a few leaves around those pumpkins and there’s your centerpiece. Of course, it has been done – by many people, many times. Thinking of something a little more creative and original? Already have a pumpkin? Why not transform the pumpkin – or a few of them – into something a little more imaginative? When you make a floral pumpkin centerpiece, the pumpkin looks nothing like it originally did, and you end up with an exquisite centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table.

One pumpkin centerpiece, which has also been done many times, is created when you cut the top off of the pumpkin, and fill the bottom half with flowers. But you’ll do something a little different with your pumpkin this year. Attach flowers to it and it won’t even look like a pumpkin anymore. Instead, it will look like a ball of gorgeous flowers, in fall colors of orange, yellow, or others.

Use real flowers or artificial ones to make the centerpiece. No matter which you’re using, cut the stems very close to the flowers. If you have artificial flowers make sure you don’t cut so close that you cut the flowers themselves. You’ll need quite a few flowers; the exact amount will depend on the size and shape of your pumpkin.

Ordinary hot glue holds real or silk flowers to the pumpkin nicely. Just make sure your pumpkin is sitting upright, and if needed, cut a slice from the bottom so it will sit flat, then begin gluing flowers all over it. Start at the bottom, and make a circle of flowers, then another circle, and another. Continue until you’ve covered the pumpkin, all the way up to the stem. The stem can remain as it is or, if you desire, you can paint it before attaching the flowers.

You don’t absolutely have to use the classic, round pumpkin for the centerpiece. Interesting shapes of other squash and gourds make for nice floral arrangements, too. Make just one ball of flowers from a pumpkin, or create a grouping of assorted shapes and sizes of gourds. When you use different shapes, and various choices of flowers, you can make the pumpkin centerpiece for years without duplicating it. You’ll adore the easy-to-create centerpiece that perfectly accentuates your fabulous Thanksgiving dinner.
