‘Terra Nova,’ Season 1, Episode 9, ‘Now You See Me’

“Terra Nova,” Season 1, Episode 9, “Now You See Me” starts with Taylor going off alone into the wilderness and leaving Shannon in charge to continue the mole hunt. Taylor is still looking for his wayward son and wondering what he is doing.

Spoilers surely follow.

While Taylor is examining the strange equations near the waterfall, he gets jumped by Mira. Mira is marching him back to the Sixer camp so that horrible things can be done to him when Taylor jumps her. Then they have to form an uneasy alliance as a couple of mean, hungry slasher dinosaurs are after them.

A “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”-style jump off a cliff into the water makes them loose their modern firearms. This means that they have to make natural weapons, stone age-style to fight off the hungry dinosaurs, which they do with great alacrity. Watching a dinosaur get set on fire is pretty cool.

Mira, by the way, reveals that the top secret government conspiracy that wants to open a two-way time portal and ravage the past has her daughter, which is why she is forced to do mean things.

In the meantime, Shannon notes that the mole is signaling someone in the wilderness with a mirror. Shannon does not catch the spy, but she is revealed to by Skye, the cute settler girl. Why is she treating with the evil Sixers? Because her mom, thought to be dead, is dying of a prehistoric disease and the Sixers have the cure. If Skye agrees to feed them intelligence, they agree to feed momma drugs. Skye also has to worry about covering her tracks, including a DNA trace of some blood she left behind.

It seems that so far people are doing bad things because worse people are blackmailing them into doing it.

There is also a story that is supposed to be heartwarming about Zoe having to release her baby dinosaur into the wild. One suspects that we have not seen the last of this lizard, provided that the series can remain uncancelled.

In the next episode, the colony is going to war.
