Take a Knee, Tebow

Lately, Denver Broncos’ quarterback Tim Tebow has come under some major fire by the media for being so open about his Christian faith on the football field. The 2007 Heisman trophy winner is causing a stir amongst NFL enthusiasts, but it’s not because he has led the Broncos to win the past 7 out of 8 games this season. Before every game, Tebow gets down on one knee and prays on the sideline, a term that has come to be known as “tebowing”, and thanks God after each game is over with. He is known to have worn Bible verses on his eye-black in the past, prompting bans on such practices. When he inscribed “John 3:16″ into his eye-black and led the Florida Gators to win the 2009 BCS National Championship, Google reported over 92 million searches for the verse.

Despite all the negativity and scrutiny, however, Tebow isn’t backing down. There’s no reason he should be attacked for public display of his faith. Everyone else seems to have something up for public display, whether it’s the Occupy protesters, those fighting for gay marriage, or even those taking a stand against bullying. His statement just happens to be on his religious foundation. And, excuse me, but have you seen Tim Tebow? He’s beautiful, and so is his message.
