St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay Area Events to Honor America’s Fallen on September 11

This is the 10th anniversary of the attack on America by terrorists. For those of you wishing to honor everyone who lost their lives in New York and Pennsylvania, there are several events in the St. Pete/Tampa Bay area Sept. 11, 2011. This is a good way to honor America’s fallen heroes as well as educate children who may not have been born yet at the time of the attack or are too young to remember. America must never forget!

September 11 Freedom Celebration, Free

North Straub Park, Fifth Avenue NE and Bayshore Drive, St. Petersburg

Honoring everyone who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, this event focuses on the family. There will be emergency vehicles on display (helicopter, fire engines, ambulances, and police cars). For the children there will be games and face-painting, all free of charge. Over 420 Tampa Bay first responders will come together for a commemorative photo.

9/11 Tenth Anniversary Memorial Celebration, Free

VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, Spring Hill

9:00 a.m. memorial viewing, 9:30 a.m. ceremony

This event includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center; a slate tile from the roof of the Pentagon; and a canister of soil from the Shanksville, Penn., crash site. The names of each victim on paving bricks will also be on display. Bring your own lawn chairs. Children are welcome.

A Day to Remember, Donations Appreciated

Bright House Field, 601 N Old Coachman Road, Clearwater

9:00 a.m., sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church

Tom Curran of Fox 13 will be master of ceremonies, with members of the police and fire department, Clearwater Mayor Frank V. Hibbard, and other community leaders in attendance. There will be a fly-over and moments of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the attack against America.

In Memorium, 9/11 Memorial Event, Free

Tampa Firefighters Museum, 720 Zach St., Tampa

Beginning at 9:30a.m., Tampa Fire Station One will be rededicated with a service in memory of Ground Zero. There will be a flag dedication and music by the Firefighters of Tampa Bay Pipe and Drum Corps, speeches, and moments of silence. On display will be a section of steel from the World Trade Center Twin Towers with the names of all of the first responders who lost their lives.
