Spring Cleaning in the Fall

When the drawers can’t be closed
And the closets overflow,
When we’ve kept too many things
Leaving no space for us to grow;
When the clutter we have saved
Won’t melt away like fallen snow –
Spring cleaning time has come.

Though the Spring is months away
Says the calendar on the wall,
The clutter clustered all around
Could make us trip and fall;
The living room is looking like
The warehouse for a mall –
Spring cleaning time has come.

It’s been put off for a while
In the hopes that someone else would do it,
But it was not really surprising because
I guess I always knew it;
That the place would not clean up itself
Though when it comes to cleaning, I eschew it –
But the time for Spring cleaning has come.
