Smartphone Review: T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide

The myTouch 4G Slide is a powerful smartphone with an interesting and sturdy design, 4G connectivity and a full QWERTY keyboard. The myTouch 4G Slide also comes with a well-equipped camera and is actually one of the selling points of the smartphone. But is a keyboard and a better camera worth the money?

The myTouch 4G Slide follows the design cues of the original myTouch 4G. Taking up the front of the phone is a colorful and vibrant 3.7 inch LCD display. Underneath the display are four Android shortcut buttons for home, menu, back and a Genius button. A small trackpad also resides underneath the four shortcuts, which is a rare addition for Android smartphones. Beneath the display is a slide out QWERTY keyboard.

The myTouch 4G Slide is a dual core smartphone, with each processor clocking in at 1.2 GHz and is preloaded with Android 2.3. HTC’s own overlay, Sense UI resides on top of Android 2.3. The myTouch 4G slide is extremely responsive and there is very little noticeable lag, even with heavy hitting applications or multiple applications running. Call quality is excellent, with no echo or distortion for both incoming and outgoing calls.

The myTouch 4G Slide, being a 4G enabled smartphone is able to connect to T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G network. The speed is impressive and T-Mobile has mentioned that speeds will only get faster as time goes along. However, the 4G coverage depends heavily on location and T-Mobile has lesser coverage in rural areas. The myTouch 4G Slide was able to around 2 days with regular usage.

The myTouch 4G Slide comes with an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash that takes amazingly crisp and clear pictures as well as great video. It also offers various options in the camera application, such as panoramic, macro and HDR modes. Overall, the camera is extremely well made and the applications really support the myTouch 4G Slide to be a digital camera replacement.

Overall the myTouch 4G Slide is a fantastic addition to T-Mobile and it has the specs and features to take on the heavily competitive U.S. market. Though a bit bulky in design, the well built keyboard is worth the extra added thickness.
