Small Bathroom Make-Overs

Whether you have just moved in or been there for years, a small bathroom can be a challenge but is not impossible to re-decorate. If you are looking for more storage or may be just to make it appear larger. The bathroom should be a comfortable space and should not only be eye-pleasing but practical at the same time.

The color of your bathroom makes a huge impression, you should choose a light color when it comes to small bathrooms, a lighter color will make it appear larger than it actually is. If you are one of the many people that are afraid of too much color then start out with an off-white or a ecru. If you are not afraid to jump in and choose a splashy color you can try lilac, butter cream, or even a light airy green. Remember if you don’t like it, you can change it without spending a fortune.

Even on a tight budget you can make a big splash by changing out the lighting fixtures in your bathroom. Many times bathrooms do not have a significant amount of natural light but if you are lucky enough to have a window in your bathroom then play it up by using light filmy curtains that allow light in while still giving you the privacy you need. If you want to make lighting changes it can be done inexpensively by adding some wall scones around your mirror or a new ceiling fixture with a smaller wattage bulb can create a great effect.

In small spaces it does not take much to make a big impression, consider your towel rack for instance, could you change those out and use hooks instead? Not only does it save room it also enables you to “save” some wall space where you can add personal touches such as framed art or family photos. You can also change out your bathroom faucet rather inexpensively and it will give the bathroom a newer more updated feel.

If storage space is part of the problem in your bathroom consider an “over-the-toilet” cabinet or shelf. These cabinets have vastly improved since they first came into fashion years ago. You can buy small baskets to hide your make-up and hair products in, and for one of the most important things in the bathroom, the toilet paper, they have these great stands that can contain several rolls and not take up valuable under the counter space

Remember this project should be fun and not cause you to stress out, you can always take it slow and just change one thing at a time such as paint or the towel racks. The less clutter you have in the bathroom the larger the space will appear so go crazy with innovative new ways to eliminate your clutter.
