Seven Beautiful Handmade Christmas Ornaments that You Can Make!

When I was growing up handmade Christmas ornaments were all we had. Now I have some amazing memories of making ornaments with my mother every year. You can easily add some beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments to your Christmas tree this year by making your own. This article will teach you how to make seven types of handmade Christmas ornaments.

Pine Cone and Bow Ornament
This project is very simple. You will need to go outside and gather the amount of pine cones that you would like to use as ornaments. There will be a variety of sizes to choose from. Other than the pine cones your supplies list for this ornament includes ribbon and bows, spray paint and a hot glue gun. Now that you have all of your supplies you will want to put a drop cloth or a cardboard box on the ground outside and spray paint the pinecones on all sides. Remember to wear a face mask when spray painting and always do it outdoors. Allow the painted pine cones to dry then glue your bows and ribbons to the bottom of them. Hang them upside down on the tree!

Painted Salt Dough Ornament
You will need to make some salt dough. Roll out the dough and use Christmas themed cookie cutters to create Christmas shapes. Bake as directed by your salt dough recipe. When the shapes are cooled, paint them and attach a tree hook to make a beautiful handmade Christmas ornament. My son loves to make salt dough ornaments, each year his ornaments look better.

Beaded Ornaments
Cut a few lengths of beading wire and string them with beads that co-ordinate with your Christmas decorations. You can hang them all over your tree. Translucent beads looks great when the Christmas tree lights are on.

Painted Glass Ornaments
For this creative project you will need to pick up a few glass Christmas ornaments, you can find them at the dollar store, and you will need some tulip paint. (The kind with the squirt tips.) Paint swirls and designs on the ornaments or have everyone to write their names on the ornaments along with the year. One creative idea is to use the larger glass ornament s and paint your baby’s handprint on it!

Christmas Card Ornaments
There are many ways to use your older Christmas cards to make beautiful ornaments for your Christmas tree this year. This article from AllfreeCrafts will teach you how to make a spherical shaped Christmas card ornament. Another great idea for using your old Christmas cards to make ornaments is to cut out triangles and squares and frame them with toothpicks!

Felt Ornaments
Using stiff felt you can create many beautiful Christmas ornaments. Use Stencils or templates from the internet to trace Christmas shapes onto the felt, cut it out and add a ribbon to hang them with. Some great shapes to use are candy canes, Santa, Christmas gift, stars, angels, crosses and snowmen, but the possibilities are limited only to your imagination. I saw a unique tree once that was decorated with a black and white theme and there were little tiny felt skulls and crossbones hanging all over it!

Use Toys as ornaments
This is a great idea that I once saw a grandmother use. Collect small toys, the kind from kid’s meals at fast food restaurants. Attach an ornament hanger or ribbon to them and decorate your entire tree with them. It is a great idea for anyone who has a small child that won’t leave the ornaments on the tree.

Whether you are looking to save some money this Christmas or to create beautiful memories with your children these ideas are a source to help you create great handmade Christmas Ornaments. Merry Christmas!
