Rick Perry Stuffing Too Many Issues into One Sentence: Gays, Christmas and Prayer in Schools

Nearly 750,000 have viewed this 30 second video on Youtube of presidential candidate, Rick Perry keyword stuffing three completely separate issues: gays in the military, Christmas and prayer in schools. Key word stuffing. That’s the only way to explain how this political message is being shared.

Here is the transcript of the “Strong” video: “I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian, but you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As President, I’ll end Obama’s war on religion. And I’ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again. I’m Rick Perry and I approve this message.”

If – then statements

Perry’s message is out of balance. When I hear his message, I feel like I’m listening to a child’s reasoning.

His logic is served up like an if – then statement. If “gays can serve openly in the military”, Perry has the balancing statement be — then let “our kids openly celebrate Christmas and pray in school.” Huh? What does one thing have to do with the other?

The only connection I can see, is the power of getting his key issues — his “key words” — mentioned as often as possible by as many people as possible so that his message can rise to the top of the page in Google.

Very clever. Hopefully, the people hearing this message, who aren’t familiar with his ideology, will see through this internet based traffic building weapon.

The people who already agree with him will, of course, think he’s a brilliant strategist. The fact that he’s already risen through the ranks with this kind of reasoning is terrifying.

Play the If-Then Game With Your Spouse

How about trying an experiment? Try that if-then statement routine on your spouse. See how far it gets you.

Following the same set-up as Perry is using in his video, it would look like this:

There’s something wrong in this marriage, “…if you’re allowed to gain weight, but I’m not allowed to have an affair or show up late for work.”
