Review: Nash Brothers Trading Company Organic Mixed Vegetables

My wife was running late from picking up my daughter from school and running a couple other errands so I told her I would pick up something for dinner. After some consideration, I ended up stopping off at one of our grocery stores and buying a chicken dinner from the deli.

While I was picking up the chicken, I noticed mixed steamed vegetables in the deli’s hot food section. These were pretty pricey so I decided to stop off at the freezer section and buy a bag of mixed vegetables (the kind in the microwave steaming bags) instead. I originally intended on just buying the store’s brand. But, I noticed a package of organic mixed vegetables from the Nash Brothers Trading Company brand and decided to buy those instead.

Even though it wasn’t much of a price difference, these vegetables were more expensive than the store brand I originally intended on buying and, because of this, I was expecting a bit more from this brand. Unfortunately, while the vegetables weren’t terrible, they also didn’t live up to expectations.

When it came to making these vegetables, they were as easy as most other brands out there. All I had to do was put the bag in the microwave and cook the vegetables for about 4 ½ minutes and they were cooked. I did like this convenience because it meant I could make the vegetables separately without having to worry about the rest of the food getting cold.

As far as quantity goes, I had no complaints either. There were plenty of vegetables inside the bag (enough for seconds and leftovers) and there was a decent mix of vegetables as well. In other words, it wasn’t all peas or all carrots.

However, when it came to taste, I honestly didn’t notice anything special about these. They tasted just like every other brand of frozen vegetables I have tried; including the cheaper store brand. In fact, there were some things I didn’t like as much as the cheaper brand; including the fact some of the vegetables seemed to be a bit dried out despite not cooking them all that long in the microwave.

As a result of this, I don’t know if this is a brand I would buy again. I might consider it in the future if it happens to be on sale. But, if I have a less expensive alternative, I’ll probably end up choosing that instead.
