Debra says that the reason why they have not spoken to the media in 3 months is because they want the police to focus on finding their baby. Later their attorney points out that the police and media were trying to build a story around the parents doing something wrong instead of looking for the person who actually took the baby. He went on to say that no one would take a child this age just to abuse or kill it. The person either took the baby to sell or to raise it as their own.
Debra’s statement
Debra said, “The only thing I am guilty of is drinking on the night baby Lisa was taken from her crib!” She stated that she will have to live with that guilt the rest of her life because if she had not been drinking she might have seen or heard something.
Dr. Phil questions inconsistencies or misinformation in the story
Debra thinks that many people have jumped to conclusions due to misinformation, and, that this whole thing has become a circus. She feels that all this misinformation is getting in the way of people being more observing when they are in public places and keeping a lookout for baby Lisa! This is exactly why Dr. Phil wants to talk about the misinformation.
Misinformation number one
Two weeks after baby Lisa’s disappearance Debra drops a bomb shell when she admits she was drinking. Dr. Phil asks why Debra did not tell the police right away about her drinking. Debra said that she volunteered that information because she thought it might help the police figure out who took her baby.
Misinformation number two
The rumor about Debra leaving the lights on! Debra explains that she always leaves certain lights on at night! The lights that were left on were the track light, stove light, and, the clock radio. These are the only lights she would normally leave on but her husband always turns them off, except for the clock radio. She went on to explain that because her husband is an electrician he doesn’t want any lights left on.
Misinformation number three
The media was told that the cadaver dog found evidence of death in Debra’s bedroom. However, the fact is that a Cadaver dog will get what they call a “hit” on any type of cells that are dead. Even feces on the carpet from a used diaper could spark a hit from a cadaver dog. Nothing was taken for evidence from Debra’s bedroom. The rug that was shown on TV was the rug from their shed.
Misinformation number four
It was rumored that the Debra and Jeremy refused to interview with the police separately! The truth is that the parents interviewed with the police at least 5 times separately.
Misinformation number five
It was rumored that the parents refused to let the police talk to their boys. The truth is the police interrogated the boys between four to five hours. The parents then said that any more interrogation has to be with a child psychologist present so that their boys would not be damaged emotionally or forced to say something untrue.
The only lead to the case that the lawyer wanted to mention was that three different witnesses saw a man walking while holding a baby. This man was not wearing a coat and the baby was only in her diaper. These three separate eye witnesses lived in relatively the same trajectory.
Misinformation number six
The supposed cell phone call that Debra was to have made to a person named Megan. The fact is that Debra could not call out on her phone and that when baby Lisa went missing the phones were taken also. Megan has gone on national TV and said that she does not know Debra. Their attorney said that if you start with conclusions and then look for evidence to back it up, then you go off in the wrong direction. He feels that this was being done by all this misinformation and media frenzy.
The parents are always looked at first
Debra pointed out that she understood that the police always have to look at the parents first but she feels that it is time to move on and find their baby. This was a very emotional and tearful interview for Debra who said that she cries about her daughter every day and knows that someone has her.
A $100,000 reward for anyone leading to baby Lisa’s whereabouts
The parents have posted a $100,000 reward to anyone who knows anything that will lead to Baby Lisa’s whereabouts. Debra went on to say that due to all the misinformation exploding on the Internet and in the news that people are not looking for the person who has her baby. Debra exclaimed that some people are trying to help but many more are busy making false accusations built on misinformation.
The private investigator hired by an anonymous benefactor
Private investigator, Bill Stanton, was hired by a female anonymous benefactor. She wants him to go out there and find the baby. She told Bill that even with the understanding that it may lead back to the parents; she still wants him to get to the truth. When Bill first met Debra and Jeremy Irwin he said, “I am not here for you; I am here for the baby!” Bill said that the deeper he drilled down to the case the more it comes down to an outsider.
Two points of entry
Baby’s Lisa window and the garage door were the two points of entry. Baby Lisa window was found
off the track after the baby was taken and Debra states that the intruder may have broken in through a torn screen. Also the garage door could have been another possible point of entry.
The appeal to the person who has baby Lisa
Debra tearfully made this appeal to the person or persons who have her baby! Please put aside your own feelings and think of what is good for baby Lisa! Debra went on to say that her baby girl needs her family and they need her. Anyone who has her baby can drop her off at a church or hospital and no questions will be asked.
Debra asks Dr. Phil for help in coping
Debra says that the only way she can keep from going insane is to believe Baby Lisa is still out there. She asked Dr. Phil what to say to her boys about their sister. They talk about her everyday and she reassures them that their baby sister will come home someday. Dr. Phil says that they should talk about her and that Debra should not hold back the tears around her boys. Dr. Phil also stated that they should talk about all the fun they had with baby Lisa and all the cute things she did. He also said that they should pray for her safe return to them.
Dr. Phil asked Debra
What did you think when you held her in your arms for the first time? Debra exclaimed! “How beautiful she was and how I always wanted a girl and finally got one.” Debra went on to explain that Jeremy was hysterically happy, and, it seemed that their family was complete!
