There are many candle molds you can make yourself, by using sand, a cardboard tube, or other common things. But for really unusual candles you almost always have to go out and buy the mold. One such example would be a pyramid or tepee candle. Many people would buy that mold, rather than try to make it themselves, but if you’d like a pyramid or tepee candle, you’ll be happy to know that you can easily make the mold from things you might already have. You’ll save so much from not having to buy the mold that you can afford to make several pyramid or tepee candles.
I used card stock to make my pyramid mold but you could also use cardboard. Draw a square on the card stock and make sure it’s perfectly square. You can use something you have around the house, like a product box, as a pattern, or you can just use a ruler.
Draw a tall triangle with a base the same length as one side of the square. Cut this triangle from paper and lay it on one side of the square. Position it so that the base of the triangle lies next to the side of the square. Draw around it. Move the pattern to another side of the square and trace it again. Do this to all sides of the square so that you have a triangle on each side of the square. Cut out the arrangement and use it to make your tepee mold.
Bend and fold each triangle right where it meets the side of the square. Fold all four triangles upward to complete the shape of the pyramid. Then, seal the edges with masking tape. Cut a tiny piece off of the tip of the pyramid so you’ll have a small opening to pour the wax.
Position the wick inside the pyramid mold but leave the wick long. That way, you can move it to the side as you pour the wax. After melting, scenting, and coloring the wax (scenting and coloring is optional), use a small funnel to pour it into the mold. When the mold is full, wrap the wick around a pencil or similar object, and balance it across the tip of the pyramid.
When the wax has cooled you can then tear the card stock shape off of it. Paint it, or otherwise decorate it, and enjoy. The pyramid or tepee candle can also be used as a Christmas tree candle.
