Picking the right pregnancy yoga video is only part of what you need to consider when you start prenatal yoga. Deciding when in the day you will do your prenatal yoga exercise and how long you will devote to your yoga practice each day or each week is also important. You should also think about what your goal or goals are when you watch the video.

Time of Day
When in the day will you watch you’re the DVD? When in the day do you have the most energy? When in the day do you need the most energy? You may want to try performing your prenatal yoga at different times of the day to see when it benefits you the most. Pay attention to how you feel both before and after your session. It may energize you or it may have you feeling tired. Pay attention to what your body is telling you and fit your exercise into a time that works the best for how your body responds. Be aware that this may change during the different trimesters of your pregnancy. Feeling tired is more common in the first and third trimesters so you may need to alter your schedule during those times.

How Much Each Week
Do you want to watch your pregnancy yoga video daily? Do you want to watch it 3 times a week? Do you want to do 30 minute sessions or 1 hour sessions? Only you can decide how much time you want to devote during your week to doing yoga. In order to help yourself stay on track with your exercise routine, it is a good idea to decide upfront how much time you want to devote to exercising. Before you ever start your first session, figure out what days and times you will devote to watching the video. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t exercise because of fatigue or nausea. Just try again next week.

Setting Goals
Establishing goals for what you want to accomplish by watch your pregnancy yoga video is also important. Is your goal to stay fit during your pregnancy, to connect more fully with your baby or to increase your flexibility? What are you hoping to get out of your prenatal yoga practice? Your goals may change from week to week or even from day to day. There is nothing wrong with that. Just understand what your goal or goals are every time that you decide to do yoga. Be aware of what you want to get out of it. If you go into your session with a goal in mind, you are far more likely to achieve that goal.
