Once Upon a Time: Prince Charming is a Brave Warrior… And a Twin?

The fairytale series “Once Upon a Time” is definitely the best new show on television! With its twists, turns and surprises, there is never a dreary moment. Each character in StoryBrooke comes with an enthralling back-story. Audiences are captivated and drawn to the characters as these stories unfold.

The episode “The Shepherd” is all about the oh so handsome Prince Charming/David Nolan (Josh Dallas). David must choose the person he wants to spend his life with. Will he choose the beautiful Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard (Ginnifer Goodwin), the woman whom he fell deeply in love with or Kathryn (Anastasia Griffith), his so called wife and Evil Queen/Regina Mill’s (Lana Parrilla) new friend? If this was fairytale world, the easy choice would be Snow White, his one true love and soul mate. However, since the Queen’s evil curse upon the fairytale world, Prince Charming is stuck in our cruel world and he is also stricken with amnesia. Not only is he wandering around in a strange land, he can’t remember a damn thing!

Before David/Prince Charming made a decision, we were taken on a journey to see who Prince Charming really is! It turns out that Prince Charming wasn’t born a prince at all. As a matter of fact, he was a farmer, the son of a peasant couple who made a deal with none other than the nasty Rumpelstiltskin/Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) who happened to also make a deal with the King. In other words, Prince Charming is a twin!

In return for prosperity for the land and crops, the peasant woman and her husband gave up one of their infant sons to Rumpelstiltskin. Rumpelstiltskin then gives that infant child to the King and his Queen whom are desperate for a heir. The twins never knew that the other existed until Prince Charming #1 was due to slay the dragon for a neighboring kingdom in return for gold for his own failing kingdom. But as luck would have it, Prince Charming #1 dies when a troll wakes up from battle and impales him with a sword!

Rumpelstiltskin makes another deal with the King and the peasant woman. He brings Prince Charming #2 to the king and replaces his dead brother and conceals his true identity forever. Once Prince Charming successfully slayed the dragon, to reunite the two kingdoms, Prince Charming was forced to accept marriage to the other King’s daughter, the Regal Blonde/Kathryn. In order to conceal his identity, Prince Charming must never see his peasant mother again! It was a very sad moment between mother and son, a price they had to pay for making a deal with Rumpelstiltskin.

Meanwhile back in the real world, David chose Mary Margaret and was supposed to meet her at the troll bridge, the place where she saved his life. Regina however, managed to divert him from Mary by giving him the wrong directions to the troll bridge. He runs into something that triggered his so called past with Kathryn in Mr. Gold’s pawn shop and somehow ends up choosing Kathryn in the end of the episode!

As a Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) and Henry (Jared Gilmore) work on breaking the evil curse, will Prince Charming find his way back to Snow White again? Can the Evil Queen keep these soul mates apart? Since Prince Charming was knocked unconscious while the Queen released her evil curse, perhaps he will start remembering his fairytale past? Real world or fairytale world, you just can’t mess with true love.
