Novelist Nicholas Sparks Writes from the Heart

My favorite novelist is Nicholas Sparks. Sparks has written seventeen novels which have become international bestsellers and six of his novels have been turned into popular films, including The Notebook, Message In A Bottle, A Walk To Remember, Nights In Rodanthe, The last Song, and Dear John. Sparks resides in North Carolina with his wife Cathy and their five children.

The most well known of Sparks’ novels would probably be considered The Notebook, a touching love story about a couple who have shared a lifelong love, now in their golden years, with the woman now suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The disease has robbed this woman of her memory and her husband lovingly re-tells the love story of their own life together to her each day at the nursing home. It is a poignant, moving novel that requires several tissues to get through, and it was what made me a lifelong Nicholas Sparks fan.

Sparks has the unique ability to really tap into the complexities of human nature and emotion through his writing, dealing with real issues and topics that could, and do, happen to real people. From the beauty of true love and the great joys of life, to the realities of abusive relationships or terminal illness, Sparks’ novels throughout the years have covered several realistic aspects of life and death. I have always said that in my opinion, Nicholas Sparks is a man who writes with the understanding of the sensitivity of a woman.

Another interesting diversion to his usual type of novels, was a factual memoir co-written with his brother Micah Sparks, detailing a journey they made together as adults, entitled Three Weeks With My Brother. Although quite different from his usual style, this is a book not be missed. In The Guardian, Sparks also steps outside of his usual style to add a real element of suspense to this novel.

Around every September I eagerly await the newest Nicolas Sparks novel, always wondering if it could possibly be as good as all the others. He has never failed to let me down yet. Sparks is definitely a wonderful novelist who has captured the attention and hearts of his readers.
