New Divorce Bombshell: What’s Behind the Heidi Klum Split from Seal?

We knew Ashton and Demi had issues, and rumors about Arnold being a womanizer were as old as “Conan the Barbarian.” Reports about these celebrity separations in 2011 were as predictable as Kim Kardashian popping up on a red carpet.

Not so Heidi Klum and Seal. Their marriage seemed as solid as the soul singer’s biceps and as romantic as his proposal in an igloo and the couple’s Mexican beach wedding. Did we mention the pair’s renewal of wedding vows each May and over-the-top Halloween parties?

It seemed like both members of this famous duet made a point to constantly reassure the world they were right for each other.

“He’s the most charming, loving, fun, gentlemanly, inspirational man I could have wished for,” Klum said of her husband in last May’s Good Housekeeping. “He always makes me feel I’m the only woman in the world.”

“It is ambitious to say that we wake up every morning and there are violins playing and angels singing,” Seal told People magazine in 2007. “She may annoy me one day; I may annoy her. But at the end of the day, there is a line I will not cross, and there is a line that she will not cross. That line is formed out of a mutual, fundamental respect. I think that is something you have from day one or you don’t.”

Though you can’t blame fans for being baffled by the sudden about-face, some cynics suggested the Seal-Heidi marriage was never as idyllic as its carefully managed media image.

“To be so . . . constantly public about your children and your husband and build your career on it is not what an authentic relationship is all about,” posted one commenter on an E! online story. “Heidi has put on an act for years to promote her brand, Heidi. Maybe she should have spent more time privately nurturing her family instead of using them as props for her business and PR.”

Another commenter compared the couple’s constant cooing to a cacophonous amphibian: “Just as the poet, Emily Dickenson wrote, ‘How public, like a frog To tell your name the livelong day To an admiring bog!’”

The “Project Runway” host attended the Golden Globes last week without Seal, but that was not necessarily an omen or anomaly. When he’s not recording an album, the four-time Grammy award winner is often touring the globe — leaving lots of alone time for Heidi.

Though absence can make the heart grow fonder, it can also make a marriage fall apart. Whether Seal and Heidi figured out they were happier without each other or, worse, one or both of them had a “special friend,” is pure speculation at this point.

Being married to a touring band member is not easy. The musician-model marriage of Billy Joel and his “Uptown Girl” Christie Brinkley bit the dust after nine years. Zooey Deschanel bid adios to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie after only two years. Even the ultimate can-do girl, Gwyneth Paltrow, has hinted at how tough it is to stay married to her British guitarist and vocalist husband Chris Martin, who tours frequently with his band Cold Play.

Undoubtedly, the tabloids will suggest many possible reasons for this most recent alleged celebrity split, citing anonymous friends who may or may not have even met the couple. But unless Seal or Heidi come forward and break their silence on the matter, we may never really know what might have shattered this “perfect” marriage.
