Macy’s Annual Thanksgiving Parade in NYC

Plan on visiting New York for Thanksgiving? Come join the festivities at the 85th annual Thanksgiving Parade! New York is well known for their holiday parade and celebrations, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade being one of the most prominent among them. You can watch the parade on TV on national news channels, but it’s not as fun as joining in person. The parade is well known for it’s character balloons, floats, celebrity appearances and millions of spectators flooding the streets to participate in the festivities.

The annual Macy Thanksgiving Parade will start this year on November 24th at 9am and end around noon. The parade begins at 77th Street and Central Park West, march south on Central Park West, then turn east and continue along Central Park South to 7th Avenue. The procession will turn and march down 7th Avenue to 42nd Street, then travel east along 42nd Street to 6th Avenue. At 6th Avenue, the parade will head south again and march to 34th Street/Herald Square. Click here for a visuals on the parade route.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade was first initiated in 1924, and has become a staple for the holiday season in New York City. It is well known for large character balloons including Buzz Lightyear, Clumsy Smurf, Diary of A Wimpy Kid,Hello Kitty, Kermit the Frog, Kung Fu Panda™, Pikachu, Pillsbury Doughboy®, Ronald McDonald®, Sailor Mickey, Snoopy the Flying Ace, Spider-Man® and SpongeBob SquarePants. New floats this year include New Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade floats will feature scenes depicting Frozen Fall Fun, the Gift of Freedom, Hats Off to Our Heritage, and frolicking polar bears.

For the 85th anniversary of the parade this year we will see appearances by Mary J. Blige, Cobra Starship, Cee Lo Green, Avril Lavigne, Scotty McCreery, the cast and Muppets of Sesame Street, Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, Willard Scott, Straight No Chaser, Johnny Weir and many others.
