Love Not the World

It’s impossible to walk down the street or turn on the television to not find some type of advertising representing a false image of what we should desire or want. There are multi-billion dollar companies out there, who spend millions of dollars, to get you to trust their brand and spend money on their products. Many people have brought purses for thousands of dollars, just so they can feel important. Many men are attracted to certain particular types of women, because of what they constantly see being advertise to them in music videos, T.V. and magazines. Some children are harassing their parents to purchase the latest gadgets, ipad and iphones, etc just so they can look “cool” or portray as if they are rich. There is nothing wrong with purchasing products or preferring particular brands for quality, especially when you CAN afford you. The problem, is for those who (1) Can’t afford (2) Lust after it or (3) Believe “things” is what makes them who they are, their character. A purse, sneakers, fancy car, are all products you use, not who you are and when you get to the point of lusting after these things, Houston we have a problem. We are constantly being advertise, that sex before marriage is okay and hoping from club to club, is what you are suppose to being do, it’s “fun”. In this world, everything that leads to destruction, is okay, drugs, alcohol, unprotected sex, partying, disrespecting each other, fighting, cursing, practicing adultery, it’s all okay with the world, as long as you are having “fun” and a “good time”, this is what some, want you to believe, that it’s all for the sake of ‘fun”. I came to tell you that is far from the truth.

Jesus said love not the world. Why would He say that? Because He knows these things are just temporary, these things are just distractions to move you further and further away from the word of God, the truth. These things will be your destruction and even for some their death. When you get to heaven, God is not going to care about, how much ‘fun” you had partying, how much shoes you have in your closet, how much your sneakers cost, God can careless about these things. He would prefer to know how many shoes you purchase for children who had no shoes, how much time you spend helping others, other than yourself, how many times you helped clothe someone. How many people you minster and helped get away from a sinful life to a godly life. God is a giver and a lover and if we are to be like Him, we have to set our mind and priorities straight. God does not mind, that you desire the best things, things of quality; but He does not want you be become big-headed about the things you do have. He does not want you lusting after these things. He does not want us to purchase items we cannot afford to impress others or make others feel inadequate, that’s not of God. He does not want to take your “fun” away, but wants to give you a proper foundation for your life. There are plenty of godly “fun” things you can do without comprising your body. When we leave this earth, we will not be leaving with anything, not one purse, no cars, nothing. However, we will have our souls and we will have to answer to God, about what we did on earth. Did you spend your time seeking things and the pleasure of this world? or did you spend your time seeking God, increasing the Kingdom of God and seeking the things above? Love not the world, everything here is temporary, but heaven is eternal. Heaven is real.

Scripture Meditation

1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world- the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions-is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever”.

Colossians 3:1-2 “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things”.

Proverbs 23:17-18 (AMP) “Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is a latter end a future and a reward, and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off”.

Hebrews 13:5
(NIV) “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Matthew 6:33
(NLT) “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need”.

Galatians 6:7-8
(NIV) “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life”.

John 14:1-4 (KJV)
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also”.
