LittleBigPlanet is a game of great creativity; it gives you the power to create worlds of your own. In the game, players are granted with the ability to create levels of their own. The capabilities are infinite because of the complex tools that the game gives you to create your own worlds. Initially, these tools can be intimidating, while they are easy to grasp at first, you definitely won’t master them in one session. With the first game being very successful, the game’s publishers Media Molecule (MM) decided to make a sequel.
LittleBigPlanet 2 is my favorite game of 2011 not only because it gives you the power to create, play and share other people’s creations, but it now allows you to create games of your own! That may sound confusing, but it’s a game where you can create games. Now I’m not talking about creating the next Halo, but the games created in LittleBigPlanet 2 resemble games from the 1990’s. It’s not uncommon to find a game created titled “The Legend of Zelda” or “Mario.” The games made within the game itself resemble simple 8-bit graphics.
Another reason this was my favorite release of 2011 was because it is original. It has never been created on any previous game system, so it is completely authentic. With the first game being highly successful, it was obvious that Media Molecule would possibly release a sequel, and they did. Gameplay mainly focuses on co-op team play and level sharing. All levels in the game, including story mode were created entirely by the tools that the game developers made. One big feature of the game is online play, this is where you can see the levels that people have created, some of which are even said to be better than the story levels. The main thing about the game is how much control players have on creating levels. This is not your normal game with a create-a-level feature. Players can control lighting, make cut scenes, use all kinds of mechanical objects and even install something called a micro-chip.
If you are a gamer who enjoys plat- forming games, I recommend that you buy a copy of LittleBigPlanet. Unfortunately, the game is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. This game is very creative and you will see some things that you have never seen in a video game before. The possibilities are endless for level creation, as aforementioned, you can create your very own game within a level. While the presentation of LittleBigPlanet 2 may seem childish, the game is fun and you will always have a good time while playing it.
