Korean BBQ Food Trucks Are Becoming a Nationwide Phenomenon

Food trucks are no strangers in Korea, where thousands of food trucks, stands and carts have been in business for many years. These businesses are an integral part of the Korean culture and a complete submersion into the Korean experience would be incomplete without tasting one of an endless variety of popular street food cuisine. In America, until recently, street food rarely involved anything beyond hotdogs and peanuts or in major cities, an added choice of gyros or kebabs. However, in the past few years, a new revolution in the food industry has been on the rise involving food trucks that create and dispense restaurant quality food to their customers in street cart fashion and many times, the culinary ideas and creations are headed by a respected and well-educated restaurant chef. The beginnings of this new era in mobile fine dining involved the birth of an idea, which was to sell Korean BBQ, an already popular cuisine among the general American population, wrapped in some form of a tortilla to resemble a traditional Mexican taco, a food item that is one of the most recognized (in both appearance and taste) in America. This Korean-Mexican fusion dish is now known as “Korean tacos” and as its name suggests, these dishes deliver on the promise to present the uninitiated with a familiar base, which is the taco, that contains meat, vegetables and sauce infused with traditional Korean flavors that are guaranteed to delight anyone’s taste buds. Since the first Korean BBQ food truck rolled out in Southern California, other similar ventures have cropped up in various other cities across America.
