Instant Attraction: Cute, Easy Magnets to Make!

These cute, easy magnets are a great craft project for kids (along with some help when it’s time for the hot glue). They are fun to make for yourself or to give as gifts for Mother’s or Father’s Day, Administrative Assistant’s Day, or for a quick, small gift.

You will need:
1 1/4 inch wooden craft circles
Magazine pages
School glue
Scissors
Plastic soda bottle lids
Clear nail polish
Hot glue gun and glue stick
Magnet dots

Steps:
Look through magazines to find patterns, colors, small images, etc., to feature on your magnets. (This is a good task for children age 4 and up.)

Cut the selected items out of the magazines in at least 1 1/2 inch squares. You can cut them larger or even tear them out if you’d like.

Spread a thin layer of glue on one side of a wooden circle and press the back of the magazine page onto the glue. Smooth out the image so that it is nicely centered on top of the wooden circle. Allow glue to dry.

Cut around the circle to remove excess paper and to shape it into a circle as well. Add a little more school glue to the edges of the circle and smooth down the sides of the magazine page. Don’t worry if it doesn’t cover the entire side of the craft circle.

Use the hot glue gun to run a bead of hot glue around the soda lid opening then stick it to the back side of the wooden craft circle. Press lid firmly against craft circle.

Holding the lid, use clear nail polish to coat the top and sides of the wooden disk. Clear nail polish glides nicely over the magazine pages without tearing or ruining the image. Allow to dry.

When the nail polish has dried, hot glue a magnet disk onto the back of the lid. Press magnet firmly against lid. Your magnet is ready to use or share!

TIPS:
* If you want to print photos from your computer to make these, be sure to use a laser printer. The glue and nail polish will cause ink jet versions to run.
* Experiment with different sizes and shapes of wooden craft pieces.
* This is a great project to use up those small leftover pieces of scrapbook paper.
