In Politicians We Trust

We say In God we Trust, we put it on our coins and our currency, but do we really? Do we really trust in God. For most of us, probably not. We trust in law-enforcement officers, preachers, politicians, parents and a variety of other people in authority and sometimes we do this at the expense of trusting in God.

We put more faith in our politicians than we do the written Word of God or even the living Word of God Jesus Christ.

Both Democrats and Republicans have members claiming to be Christian, yet both have ignored the written Word of God for the sake of politics and we follow the politicians even when scripture is clear. Democrats are often anti-life and often anti-choice, Republicans are anti-compassion in many instances. Then our preachers, teachers and parents follow their lead. Most conservative church leaders are not Republican because of what scripture teaches, most are Republican because republicans took sides with the conservative church on the issue of abortion. Rev. Jesse Jackson stays within the Democratic party in spite of their position on Abortion. Nancy Pelosi claims to be a catholic yet calls the murder of unborn children a woman’s right to choose. In my opinion Nancy Pelosi is very likely the most political and the most partisan person in Washington, D.C.

When I was a preteen in the late 1960’s the differences between denominations and other churches were usually based on how they saw scripture. One denomination would see a scripture that says Grace only, another denomination saw scriptures about Baptism and that’s where the differences were. Today, those differences are just tradition and the differences between many churches and denominations is based on politics and the politicians their leaders follow.

Politics is not all bad, one thing good that has happened through politics is that we have stopped worshiping authority. Many of today’s leaders complain about the so called lack of respect for authority. I’m sorry, that’s not where the lack of respect is. I think, other than God (Jesus) you do not respect authority just because of who they are. What if someone ask you to deny your faith? Or More often than not the lack of respect is by authority. When you have cops that are trigger happy and shut down the lemonade stands of teenage girls saying ” the law is law” you obey the law and the authority, but you can’t ethically respect that authority just because of who they are. God never told you to be loyal just to be loyal, He never said obey authority just because it’s authority. Authority figures don’t like being questioned in certain ways, and many times it’s because they are doing something dishonest themselves.

We need to start trusting in God, not in authority, not in politics, not in preachers or teachers. Does that mean we shouldn’t trust these people at all? No it don’t, God gave us these people as authority. We live and work with people, including politicians and other leaders..We need to be able to trust them and some of them are trustworthy, but we need to stop our worship of authority figures like politicians, preachers, law-enforcement officers, and teachers start reading God’s written Word. We need to stop that and start trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who do you put your trust in? Will you ask Jesus to come into your heart today? Just ask accept the living Lord Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour today and ask him to come into your heart.
