Ideas for Decorating a Bedroom with Curved Walls

Curved walls are architectural works of art, and the decorating possibilities are endless. A bedroom with curved walls can have quaint cottage style, country charm or a flair of elegance. The decorating scheme does not have to be contemporary. In any case, it can be enhanced with stylish round furnishings, eye catching floor decor, unique shelving and much more.

I rented a house on the ocean, and the master bedroom had beautiful pale yellow curved walls. A tower of windows overlooked a private beach, and the view was priceless. The owner of the house began updating the master bedroom with a new decorating scheme, but she was not quite finished. She wanted to enhance the beauty of the structure. I provided her with a few creative decorating ideas in exchange for a week in her beautiful home.

Soften the Curves with Standard Furnishings

When curved walls appear too round, it is easy to soften the look. Place standard furnishings in front of bowed walls. A regular headboard, a chest of drawers or a simple chair can visually diminish the curves. With something partially obstructing the view, the curvature of the walls is not nearly as obvious. Unlike an empty corner, only a small amount of space ends up unused.

Decorating and Furnishing Straight Bedroom Walls

To accentuate curved walls in a bedroom, avoid furnishing and decorating the curves. Furnish and decorate straight walls instead. Keep the curved areas completely unobstructed, or consider decorating with floor decor. A large potted plant, a fountain or a pillar topped with a sculpture or a carving is ideal decor along curved walls.

Consider a Round Bed

A round bed is ideal in a bedroom with curved walls. The home that I rented on the ocean had a gorgeous round platform bed. It was placed approximately three feet from a wall of windows that extended from floor to ceiling. The view was phenomenal, and the round bed was the perfect furnishing. No other bed would have looked quite as stylish or as impressive in a bedroom with curved walls.

Decorating a Curved Wall with Arched Shelving

A curved wall can be functional and stylish. Consider adding shelves that curve across a single bare wall. Built-in curved shelving is absolutely gorgeous, and it does not have to be used to store reading material. It can be used to hold a collection of art or other eye catching decor. A skilled woodworker can easily create shelves that blend beautifully with the curvature of a wall, and you can enjoy decorating the bedroom with your collection of treasures.
