Makeup can not only cover blemishes and unsightly marks, but it can also be used to beautify the face by playing with shadows and highlighters. Many people who wear makeup only use it to even out their skin tone, but makeup can also be used to contour the face. The right makeup tools can help slim down a nose that might be too wide for your liking. This cost effective “nose job” can easily be done with an angled brush, a cream foundation that is about a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone, and a highlighting powder.
Step 1: Always Start With a Clean and Primed Face
Whenever you apply makeup to your face, make sure that you are working with a clean canvas. Use a gentle, pH balanced facial cleanser that won’t irritate your skin. Rinse off your face and pat it dry with a clean towel. Do not rub your face with the towel. This can cause flaking, which will show up when you apply your makeup.
After cleansing, apply a primer. Primers are designed so that makeup stays put all day. Some formulations can also ward off excessive sebum production. Apply the primer, making sure to use a circular motion. Keep applying the product until it is completely absorbed into the skin.
Step 2: Darker Cream Foundation to Contour
Dip an angled brush into the cream foundation that is a shade or two darker than your skin. Draw a line running down each side of your nose. Start from the area around your eye and create a line towards the tip of your nose. Make sure that the line is not thicker than your nail on your pinky finger. Too large of a line will only make your nose look dirty. With a makeup sponge, lightly blend out any harsh edges.
Step 3: Highlighting Powder
Lightly dip a small makeup brush into the highlighting powder. Highlighting powders will usually have iridescent bits that will reflect light. This will have a subtle, highlighting effect. Using the brush, apply a light coating of the powder on the bridge of your nose.
The darker color from the cream foundation will retract the sides of your nose. The highlighting powder will showcase the bridge of your nose. This will give the illusion of a pointer, finer nose. Once you are satisfied with your new nose, apply the rest of your makeup.
