How Are Your New Year’s Resolutions Working for You?

After the last piece of pecan pie is inhaled, and the holiday leftovers leave you pinching more than just an inch, it’s time to make a New Year’s resolution. Throw out the sweets, eat more fish and salads, and no more late night munchies while watching David Letterman.

My hubby and I jumped on the resolution bandwagon. He is going to the pool almost every day to exercise, cutting down on sweets and soda, and paying more attention to calorie counts. For myself, I’ve always been an exerciser, so one of my biggest challenges was not to keep tasting the food as it was being prepared. You know the drill. A batch of cookies is baked, so I had to lick the beaters and mixing bowl, as well as tasting a few when they came out of the oven, just to make sure I mixed my ingredients right. Sauces need a taste test so they’re not too salty, and it’s a shame to waste that last dab of chicken salad that didn’t make the cut for hubby’s lunches.

Another important resolution that I made was to create a good income in 2012. I’m always looking for ways to make more money to reach my goals. One of my goals this year is to be able to help out more with household emergencies. We’ve all experienced them. Your water heater goes bad, the fence blows down in a hard wind, or your car tires are worn down, and need replacing. Often, these emergencies sneak up on us, and we have to scramble to cover the costs.

We enjoy barbershop music and another one of my goals this year is to attend a convention in Arizona. What is so great about going to Arizona, you may be wondering? Well, for one thing, I’ve never been there, and would like to see the Grand Canyon. No, I’m not going to see the sights riding on a mule, but there are some guided tours I would like to take advantage of.

How are your New Year’s resolutions working for you? Do you want to live a healthier lifestyle, spend more time with family, or create a good income that will help you realize your dreams? Getting started is the hardest part, and when you begin to see results, you realize the journey was well worth the sacrifice.
