Homemade Valentine’s Gift for Him – Wrist Warmers

Valentine’s Day is the time of year when those of us with a special man in our lives want to find that special something as a gift. If you are a crochet enthusiast, here is a pattern for fingerless gloves or wrist warmers. These wrist warmers make the ideal gift for any man who enjoys sports such as winter hunting and fishing or the modern technology of texting. The wrist warmers provide the hand and wrist warmth while allowing the fingers free motion.

Supplies:

Size H/8 5mm crochet hook
4-ply worsted weight yarn
Scissors

Instructions:

Row 1 – Chain 28 stitches. Attach the last stitch of the chain to the first with a slipstitch. Make sure the chain is not twisted.

Row 2 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the back of the loop with the slipstitch and in each stitch round. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch of the row.

Row 3 to 7 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the back loop of the slipstitched loop. Single crochet in the front loop of the next stitch. Repeat the back and forth motion of stitches from the back loop to the front loop in the remainder stitches in the row. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch of the row. This will create ribbing around the bottom of the wrist warmer.

Row 8 to 26 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the back loop of the slipstitched loop and in each stitch around. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch in the row.

Row 27 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the back loop of the slipstitched loop and in the next 3 stitches. Single crochet through both loops of the next stitch. Chain 9 stitches. Skip 9 single crochet stitches. Single crochet through both loops of the next stitch. Single crochet in the back loop of each remaining stitch. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch in the row.

Row 28 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the back loop of the slipstitched loop and in the next 4 stitches. Single crochet in each chain stitch for a total of 9 stitches. Single crochet in the back loop of the remaining stitches. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch in the row.

Row 29 – 36 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the back loop of the slipstitches loop and in each stitch around. Finish off. Cut the yarn approximately 2-inches from the hook. Weave the 2-inch tail back and forth through the last row of stitching.

Tips: Purchase a yarn that is very soft to the touch. There are several on the market and available at local hobby and craft stores. Feel the yarn prior to purchasing. Some yarn is stiffer than others. The softer the yarn, the more comfortable the wrist warmers.
