Homemade Crochet Hook Holder from Repurposed Blue Jeans

Calling all crochet enthusiasts! Make your own crochet hook holder from the back pockets of old, non-wearable blue jeans. The process is very simple and takes only minutes to complete. The pocket crochet hook holder works perfectly to store any size crochet hook from the very fine to the very large. The stiffness of the denim provides good protection for the crochet hooks while allowing the pocket to be rolled for storage or to carry in your project bag.

Throughout the years, I have repurposed blue jeans or colored denim into purses, skirts, stuffed animals and quilts. I have used the back pockets to make dried flower holders to hang on the wall, gift holders for Christmas candy and small purses. The use of the pocket for a crochet hook holder was something I never thought about until recently.

Supplies:

Pair of old blue jeans with two back pockets
Sharp scissors
Straight pins
Sewing machine
Thread
Crochet hooks

Process:

Step 1 – Cut the two back pockets from a pair of old blue jeans. Cut very close to the edge of the pocket. Cut along the top of the pocket through the fabric beneath. Do not cut into the pocket itself.

Step 2 – Turn the pocket so the bottom edge is on top. Sew a straight seam across the pocket. Move the needle from one-quarter to three-quarter inches and sew a second seam. Repeat the process across the width of the pocket. The exact size of each straight area depends on the size of crochet hooks. Repeat the process with the second pocket.

Step 3 – Slide a crochet hook in a completed storage section. The crochet hook should fit so the hook extends past the edge of the pocket by approximately half an inch. Place a mark just below the bottom of the crochet hook. Remove the hook and sew a straight seam at the edge of the mark to create a pocket just the right length for your crochet hooks.

Step 4 – Flip one pocket over so the back is facing up. Center and place the second pocket over the first with the back side of the pocket facing down. Turn the pockets so the top of the pockets are on top. Pin along the left, bottom and right side of the pocket with straight pins.

Step 5 – Sew along the right, bottom and left edge of the pockets. Do not sew the top edge. When this process is completed, you will have two areas to hold crochet hooks and a pocket in the center for scissors and other large items.

Suggestions:

Add character to the blue jean pocket crochet hook holder by sewing lace around the edge, adding a tie and/or personalize the front with a painted design.
