Happiness Within

I was feeling restless and yearned for something more,
I thought I found the best of life when you walked in the door.
You brought such joy and laughter that you took my breath away,
I loved just being with you and I wanted you to stay.
But happiness doesn’t stay if you didn’t have it at the start,
I didn’t know what I wanted until you opened up my heart.
You gave me my beginning but the yearning was still there,
I could give you nothing because I had nothing else to share.
I needed to find my happiness within myself not you
So I stepped back until I found the peace I never knew.
When I find that place in life where I need to be
I’ll be able to give to you the very best of me.
