Free Community Thanksgiving Meal

The Community Thanksgiving Meal will be held in Malvern, Arkansas on Thanksgiving Day 2011. The free Thanksgiving meal is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Page Avenue and Ash Street in Malvern. Dinner is a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, green beans, sweet potatoes, and rolls. Drinks and desserts are also included free of charge in this community event.

The Community Thanksgiving Meal, now in its seventh year, began in 2005 as the community’s response to help victims of Hurricane Katrina who had relocated to the area. Malvern resident John Allan Funk is the founder and coordinator of the annual event which has been hosted each year by First United Methodist Church. Over the years, Malvern’s Community Thanksgiving Meal has grown from serving 300 people to dinner for about 700.
