Feast or Famine: Floyd Mayweather Knows on Sept 17th, Its All or Nothing

Floyd Mayweather’s upcoming fight versus Victor Ortiz is quickly approaching and he is training like a man possessed. His workouts are legendary among boxing insiders but for this fight he has taken it to the next level. Three workouts per day including nine minute rounds of sparring exemplify his dedication to remain unbeaten. Being labeled the best creates a mystique amongst his fans but Floyd understands that if he loses this fight then everything he has worked for will be stripped from him in one night. He knows that winning a rematch will do nothing to restore his braggadocian persona that holds on to his unbeaten record for relevance.

Blood, sweat, and tears is his motto. Hard work and dedication is what he uses to overcome his obstacles as well as his opponents. For 16 yrs in the sport of boxing, he has faced many challenges and challengers but on September 17th the pressure will be on. Standing across the ring from him will be a young, fast, strong southpaw that believes it’s his time. Will there be a changing of the guards? Conventional wisdom tells us that youth can be advantageous but experience can offset that factor. Floyd understands this well because he is one of the smartest boxers to ever put on a pair of gloves. He knows that a boxer has to be more than young, fast, and strong to beat a great boxer with an all around good skill set.

Floyd’s focus is unilateral now. Victor Ortiz is getting all of his attention. If he can’t beat Ortiz then he knows that he will have a hard time convincing the public that he could have beaten Manny Pacquiao. One thing is clear, if he loses it won’t be because he didn’t train hard and wasn’t fully prepared. The few who have had the opportunity to see him in camp says that he is looking sharp and is ready to go. He brought in Kassim Ouma, Sechew Powell, and DeAndre Lattimore as sparring partners. All are contenders in their respected weight divisions. He is leaving no stone unturned. He knows he has to put on a spectacular performance to momentarily silence his critics and to keep his meal ticket intact.

If he looks anything less than spectacular then his value drops because his braggadocio has created a precedence of excellence every time he enters the ring. The more he talks of Ortiz being easy work the more he will be scrutinized for anything that appears to be less than that. If you talk the talk then you must walk the walk. So far he has been able to accomplish this and for the most part has made it look like easy work.

On September 17th, millions of fans will tune in to see what the outcome is going to be. Will it be feast or famine? What should the fans expect?

Expect to see the best Floyd Mayweather you have ever seen. A masterful performance will be on the display because all Floyd knows how to do is win and there’s nothing in Ortiz’s arsenal will change the reality of that fact.
