Fashioning a Fundraiser with “Threads of Color”

A stunning, ground floor, ‘pop up’ soiree’ in Chelsea’s Bernstein showroom, coordinated by Joanna Cummings of Elite Weddings & Events, Threads of Color lived up to its name, weaving together a varied tapestry to warm up the winter night. The room was dotted with inventive, splashy displays – each with the works of some scholarship recipients, as well as with design on loan from established fashion ‘royalty’. Tommy Hifiger, Tracy Reese, Eileen Fischer, Stephen Burrows, Adrienne Landau, Alessandra Gold, Anne Bowen, Carmen Marc Valvo, Cheng-Huai-Cheng, Coreen Simpson, Don O’Neill, Edward Wilkerson, Lafayette 148, Ines Di Santo, Kevan Hall, Lois Samuel, Jay & LaCrasia, Marsha Makins & Cody Caldwell, Rubin Singer, Stefan Miljanich, Stephen Burrows, Suki, Hisham Oumlil and Suma C all had creations of theirs on display or for sale.

Threads of Color is a non-profit organization that raises scholarship funds for college students studying fashion, while celebrating the diversity of American designers. And celebrate they did – in a kaleidoscope of colors and personalities. There were the folks of Threads…Amy Rosi (director of PR), Ionia Dunn Lee (founder/creative director), Jeffrey Schwager (executive director), Mitira di Gacomo (co-executive director), Ronald Koth (editorial editor) and James Collins (DP). Then there was Li Jing (creator of Culturi.com/TV host/model/reporter), Diane Forden (MC for the evening), a U.N. representative and the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award, Tommy Hilfiger. And the designers represented (and on their board), are all Americans with heritages that include Irish, Welsh, Spanish, Cuban, Italian, Argentinian, Hungarian, Montenegran, Canadian, American, Egyptian, British and Native American!
