Dying is just like taxes in the respect that it is going to happen to you and me. Over history, we realize it doesn’t matter who you are, you are going to face death. Famous people have no secret weapon against death. They are just like you and I. They will die. We will die. Death is a part of life. However, many of us look forward to eternal life in Heaven. After we all pass from this world, I hope to meet each one of you in a better place called Heaven.

What Happened Today in History?

1519 Panama City, Panama, is founded.

1534 Saint Ignatius of Loyola and six classmates take initial vows, leading to the creation of the Society of Jesus in September 1540.

1843 The Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace in Honolulu, Hawaii is dedicated. Now the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, it is the oldest Roman Catholic cathedral in continuous use in the United States

1935 Will Rogers and Wiley Post are killed after their aircraft develops engine problems during takeoff in Barrow, Alaska

1879-1935 Will Rogers, American humorist and actor who was killed in a plane crash with Wiley Post

1892-1942 Mahadev Desai, personal secretary of Mahatma Gandhi

1913-1975 Clay Shaw, American lawyer and John F. Kennedy assassination investigator

1918-2007 John Gofman, American Manhattan Project scientist and advocate

1917-2008 Jerry Wexler, American music producer, he coined the term “rhythm and blues”, and was integral in signing and/or producing many of the biggest acts of the last 50 years, including Ray Charles, the Allman Brothers, Chris Connor, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Wilson Pickett, Dusty Springfield and Bob Dylan. Wexler was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987
