It may only be the end of August, but Fall is definitely in the air. Have you noticed the crispness of the early morning air? What a better time to start picking up Fall produce. Here is a listing of five stands or markets in an around Washington County, Wisconsin.


West Bend Farmers Market

There are over 65 vendors each week at the West Bend Farmers market. It is located in the quaint little downtown center of the city, just minutes from anywhere in West Bend. The produce changes somewhat from month to month, but there is always a variety to choose from. Here’s a list of what’s available from August through October. Meadowbrook Pumpkin Farm & Market

Fall is peak season at Meadowbrook Pumpkin Farm & Market. Meadowbrook is home to the Haunted Cornfield Maze which is open Friday & Saturday nights beginning September 23, 2011 and running through the end of October. In addition they have pumpkins for sale, vegetables, winter squash and sugar sweet corn. In addition, they sell apples from Oct 1st through Oct 31st.

The farm is open at 10 am daily.

Basse’s Taste of Country Farm Market

Basse’s Taste of Country in Colgate is a family owned and operated farm. The main store is open from mid-July through November and offers raspberries, corn and pumpkins and squash as the season develops. They also sell apples and apple cider, as well as candies, crafts and other goodies. Basse’s has their Annual Pumpkin Festival which offers hayrides and a corn maze.

Basse’s Country Store is open seasonally during the following hours:
Sunday, Monday, Thursday: 10:00-5:30 PM
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 10:00-6:30 PM

Witte’s Vegetable Farm

Witte’s is a family farm located in Ozaukee County in Cedarburg. They are currently offering melons, winter squash, Brussels sprouts, pinto beans, greens and green and yellow peppers. They currently have pick-your-own raspberries and are expecting to have pick-your-own tomatoes to be available beginning Labor Day.

Highcross Farm

The Highcross Farm specializes in raising purebred Shetland sheep and fresh vegetables, berries and meat. They supply vegetables to several local restaurants and also have a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) service which allows you to buy produce directly from the farmer. They offer in-season organic produce and have pick-up locations throughout the area.

They also offer free-range roasting chickens and naturally raised lamb. As well as, high quality raw fleeces and roving for the fiber artist, soft sheepskins in many different natural colors, as well as breeding stock and starter flocks.
