Fabulous Fall 2011 Fashion Trends

Summer has come and gone once again. As the last of the long days pass us by, we must prepare to stow away our sundresses and pack away our pastels.

September brings forth a new year in the fashion calendar. Instead of sulking about the Summer Fridays that have passed you by, you should be daydreaming about the fabulous fall fashion that is about to begin. With Fashion’s Night Out and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week taking New York by storm, there is no better time to reinvent your fashion wardrobe. This trend study guide will have you acing the fall fashion test with flying colors.

Sorry, PETA, you’ve lost to Prada… again. Fur is a huge trend this fall. Psychedelic 70’s inspired color furs rocked the runway. It seems like every line from Emanuel Ungaro to Emporio Armani have designed some seriously slamming furs.

Put your Little Black Dress in the closet and garnish your wardrobe in posh patterns. Make a dash for Alberta Ferretti, Nina Ricci, and Burberry Prorsum for 60’s mod and graphic art inspired designs. After you’ve picked up these cocoon shaped dresses and flashy forals, channel your inner Minnie Mouse because Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg sure did. The mouse’s signature pattern, polka dots, is about to take the fall by storm. I always new that Minnie was ahead of the curve.

You don’t have to be on a desert adventure to wear camo this year. Camouflage inspired clothing is sure to be a statement on Fifth Avenue. Want to really feel like you are roughing it? Head to the handbag aisle because leather harness embellished bags will await you.

The colors of the leaves definitely inspired designers this season. Mustard, jade green, and rust are bound to be huge. While you are at it, try out some rouge red lips to accent the burnt tones. Burnt colors are as big in menswear as they are in womenswear this season, so if you need to pick up a gift for your guy be sure to snag one of these cool fall colors. Pocahontas would be so proud.

Swore to yourself you would no longer wear your leggings outside the house? Then throw on a maxi skirt. There is no better combination of comfy and chic. Dress up your maxi skirt with a form-fitted peplum blazer or down with a thick sweater. Chunky sweaters are in so you don’t have to feel unpolished when you rock them around town.

Showing your sultry side is awfully easy this season. Plunging necklines are back and lower than ever. Feeling super sassy? You can also spice to your weekend wardrobe with a slit-up-the front-skirt. Be sure to try it on for length before you carry it home with you. Remember vixens, stay classy not trashy!

Have a formal event in the future? Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw. Wearing a woman’s tuxedo will set you on the best-dressed list. Not daring enough to don a dashing tuxedo, then glitz up your night with some glitter. Stella McCartney and Reid Krakoff got it right with this spunky and sparkly trend.

Be happy you snagged the lace blouse off the clearance rack last spring. Lace is still in! Save your last seasons and dress them up with some new jewelry. Clueless called – and chokers are back on the market this fall. FINALLY!

Lucky for you, your dream of being Alicia Silverstone doesn’t have to be put to bed just yet. Another 90’s trend that has returned is plaid. Keep the plaid to a minimum: one piece at a time. A cute plaid headband could just be piece you need to incorporate the trend into your daily wardrobe.
