The trick to wearing attractive eyeliner without looking like Rudolph Valentino is mastering a natural looking application. For guys, current male eyeliner styles are soft and flatter the eye shape and color. Of course, if you’re unafraid to get lots of attention, a heavy handed application might be perfect for you.
Eyeliner for men
Choose an eyeliner color that suits your skin, eye and hair color. For a natural looking application, this is important. Wearing very black eyeliner with fair skin and red hair isn’t natural looking. You may have to experiment with colors to get the right one.
Start with freshly washed skin. Eyes should be clean and clear of debris. Wipe away the sleep first! Apply eyeliner in small dashes, not one long line. A single line will leave your eyeliner looking crooked. Rub on a thin line of eyeliner on the top lashes, starting at the outside working inwards. Use a sponge tip applicator or slanted tip eyeliner tool to smooth the eyeliner. Blend the eyeliner but don’t smear it.

Eyeliner streaks when wet so if you’ve got a gig as lead singer, wear waterproof eyeliner. If not, you could end up looking like Alice Cooper. (Not attractive!) Eyeliner clumps up if the tip is old. Sharpen wooden eyeliner pencils right before using them. This also cuts down on eye infections caused by germy exposure. Use oil-free makeup remover to wipe away eyeliner before you go to sleep. If not, your pillows and clothing will take an ugly beating. Never share your eyeliner. Some eye infections are transferred through mucus exchange. Pink eye is easily transferred.
