So, you’re planning your wedding, you’ve gotten a menu together, you’ve chosen flowers. Have you made the escort cards yet? You don’t want ordinary escort cards – cards like everyone else has had at their weddings; it’s much better to have something different than others. There are no ends to the fancy escort cards you can make from cardstock or paper. You can make colorful borders, calligraphy names, and even metallic accents. But all of that has been done before. For your special wedding, for your perfect day, why not let the guests eat their escort cards? When you make cookie cards your wedding guests will gobble them.
One way to make the escort card cookies is to just buy refrigerated cookie dough. Or, mix up a boxed mix of cookies, or create one of your own recipes. With the sugar cookies, it’s easy to just cut shapes with cookie cutters. Shape them like tags and you recreate a recognizable escort card. If you have no cookie cutters, cut the dough into rectangles, then trim one end of each rectangle so that it comes to a point. Poke a hole at the point to replicate some ordinary escort tags.
Bake the cookies, according to package or recipe instructions, and allow them to cool completely. Once they’re cool, use tube gel to write a name on each one. Or, place frosting in a sandwich bag, snip one corner, and pipe the names onto the cookies. With the frosting in a bag you can also do borders and other accents.
A slightly different type of escort cookie cards is made when you frost the sugar cookie tags. Frost the cookies and then write the names on the tags, adding borders or other accents, if desired. Frosted cookies are easy to coordinate with the colors of the wedding.
You don’t absolutely have to use sugar cookies to make the escort cards. You can use chocolate chip, lemon, and other types of cookies, as long as they don’t have chunks of things, like chocolate, marshmallows, candies or nuts. It’s more difficult to get a smooth look for the escort card cookies if you have protrusions like nuts.
Your escort cards will look – and taste – much different than escort tags featured at the weddings of your friends. Yours are adorable, edible, and really inexpensive. What more could you ask for from a mere escort card?
