Christmas Morning is Full of Special Memories

In our house, it was the day we looked forward to all year. Christmas morning. It didn’t get any better. It didn’t get any more exciting.

My brother and I always planned it out. We would go to bed early on Christmas eve & make sure we got up plenty early for Christmas morning. Usually around 4 or 4:30am, one of us would wake up & say to the other, “Hey, are you awake?”. After that it was on. We would tiptoe as quietly as possible down the dark stairs right next to our parents’ bedroom trying our hardest not to wake them up.

As soon as we made it down to the living room, we were always blown away. Look at all those presents! WOW! Santa Claus must have really liked those cookies!

Our stockings were always fair game to at least sneak a peak into. We could usually take everything out & see what was in there & place it all back in there so mom wouldn’t get mad that we started without them. Reese’s peanut butter cups, popcorn balls, baseball card packs, & Hershey kisses were just a few of the lovely things we’d discover in our stockings.

When we got brave, we would pick up some presents from under the tree, shake them a bit, try to guess what could possibly be inside. We were almost always wrong. We weren’t very good at that game. Santa Claus was really good at keeping us off guard. He also treated us very well. One year it was a new bike. Another year my brother got a Tenor Saxophone! We got some great tapes on Christmas as well. Motley Crue – Girls, Girls, Girls, Aerosmith – Pump, & Bon Jovi – Slippery When Wet were three of the first albums we ever owned & introduced us to rock music. Our first computer was a Christmas present as well. It was a Commodore 64C. Anybody remember those?

One year, we decided we were going to risk it. We agreed that we should open one gift before mom & dad got up. It was only one & it was a small one so we figured we could probably get away with it. We had to do it. We had no choice. The suspense was killing us. We had to open something!!! So we did. And guess what we got that one time we decided to cheat……

…. a brand-spanking new…… pair of…..

UNDERWEAR!!!

That’s what you get for not waiting for mom & dad.

Merry Christmas!!!
