Video games have evolved far from the simplicity of Pong and Tetris. There are several thousand video games in the market right now, however not all are new and noteworthy enough to garner much attention from the general public. However, there are a few standout games that get so much attention that they turn into video game series, these games include titles such as Battlefield, Starcraft, Warcraft, and Call of Duty just to name a few. All of these series have very positive feedback from many who have attempted to play them, however, Call of Duty is perhaps the worst video game series currently out there.
In order for a video game to become a series, it usually has to have the following attributes, a good story line with interesting and dynamic characters, high replay value, and most important, multiplayer capability. Battlefield, Starcraft, Warcraft, and Call of Duty all share these common attributes, however the problem with Call of Duty now is that the gameplay has grown stale.
Call of Duty releases games every year for the past seven years now, and year after year, they have frustrated many players especially in the multiplayer aspect of the game. Many players frequently complain of balance issues with killstreaks, in Call of Duty a killstreak is achieved by making a certain number of kills in one life, balance issues with weapons in the game, and other factors such as hacking, especially in the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The Call of Duty series was once considered to be one of the best video game series out there, however when issues popped up, especially in Modern Warfare 2, people started to take notice and started to dislike the game due to too many people cheating and balance issues with the game’s developer, Infinity Ward. The other series of games out there such as Battlefield, Starcraft, and Warcraft have consistently performed well with their games. Battlefield is a good game for a generally more realistic shooter, Starcraft and Warcraft both have games out there that are real-time simulations and builders, these games never cease to amaze gamers. Warcraft also a massive multiplayer role playing game that has been live for over seven years. Call of Duty was once one of the best game series out there but due to factors with the developer, it has taken a fall from grace.
