Buffalo Bills Player Profile: Stevie Johnson

There are 92 people with the name Steve Johnson in Kentucky, and to Buffalo Bills ‘ fans at the start of last season he was just some wide receiver with a crazy hairdo that was replacing Terrell Owens .

After a breakout year Johnson has made a name for himself and has risen to the top, just like he did in his last season with the Kentucky Wildcats .

Steve Johnson Jr., who prefers to be called Stevie, was born July 22nd, 1986, in San Francisco, California and attended Chabot College in Hayward, California from 2004-2006 before transferring to the University of Kentucky.

No. 13 was not much of a factor during the 2006-07 season for UK, as he only had 12 receptions for 159 yards and one touchdown, but it was his performance against Clemson in the Music City Bowl that began his ascension.

The next season, Johnson came out of nowhere to become the exciting go-to guy on the Wildcat offense as a senior. He started all 13 games and had 60 receptions for 1,041 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Stevie Johnson was projected as a late-round pick in the NFL draft and was the prototypical wide receiver the Buffalo Bills were looking for-a 6’2″³, 202 lb threat that can sit opposite the speedy Roscoe Parrish and explosive Lee Evans.

Draft reports questioned his maturity, stating that he was fairly raw and a mediocre route runner, and Johnson slipped to the 7th round where he was picked by the Bills.

Stevie would see limited action in the 2008-09 season, but he continued to get better with experience.

Fast forward to 2011 and Stevie Johnson is the number one receiver on the Buffalo depth chart as the Bills felt comfortable enough to trade Lee Evans to the Baltimore Ravens this off-season.

In 2010 Johnson caught 82 balls for 1,073 yards and 10 touchdowns. With his production came a “swagger” the Bills have not seen in years.

Although he may be remembered by some for his dropped pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers , which could have given the Bills a stunning win over the Steelers, most Buffalo fans will point to his “Why So Serious!” shirt after the Bills dramatically came back against the Cincinnati Bengals .

Stevie Johnson is a fun loving guy, evidenced by his spirited University Of Kentucky rap and his Twitter account (@StevieJohnson13), who takes on fans in games of Madden. He is also a husband and a father of two children who enjoys iCarly and Spongebob Squarepants on Nickelodeon.

Johnson is putting himself on the NFL map, now mentioned as a potential stud who is only going to improve with time.
