Best Video Game of the Year: MLB 11: The Show

MLB 11: The Show is definitely the best video game of the year…for me, anyways. I’m not a fan of the shooting games, or the fighting games, or the racing games. Well, I’m not a fan of any games except for MLB 11: The Show, to be honest. This made it pretty easy to pick my best video game of the year for 2011.

One of the best features of MLB 11: The Show is the “Road to the Show” feature. The RTTS feature lets you creature your own player, and start in the minor leagues and work your way up. Although the 2011 version on the RTTS didn’t see much of an upgrade from the previous year, it’s still the best part of the game, by far.

Another great thing on MLB 11: The Show is the Home Run Derby. Home Run Derby wasn’t included in The Show until the 2010 game. Not only can you chose the current parks for your HRD, but you can choose classic parks as well. Such as classic Fenway Park, or the old Yankee Stadium.

The game goes for the players. You can choose players from baseball’s past, such as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Yogi Berra, etc. It’s nice to be able to play a game as a player such as Ruth, who is so iconic to baseball, but you never got to see play for yourself.

Of course there’s still the regular baseball game stuff on MLB 11: The Show, as well. Such as single games, seasons, franchises, etc. I typically only play the RTTS feature, or play online against others, so I really can’t say all that much about the other features of the game.

If you play on the PlayStation 3, you also have the ability to play online against anyone else who owns the game. This is a great way to play against a live opponent when you don’t have any friends because you sit around and play video games all day.

Also in MLB 11: The Show, you can choose between current rosters or default rosters. When you play online, the rosters update automatically every week, so all your teams are up to date with trades and things that are going in the the real MLB world. Also when you play online, there is a real time ticker on the bottom of the screen that shows you all the MLB scores around the league.

All in all, MLB 11: The Show is my video game of the year for 2011 because I simply don’t play any other game.
