Art and My Love for Doing Art

I really love doing artwork. It is yet to be proven which medium I prefer. I have dabbled in almost everyone. Drawing for me began when I was just a small child. I loved to color in the coloring books that my grandmother kept at her house for me and my brothers. Though the crayons we mostly broken and missing their paper, they were left over from the school days of my aunt and uncle, they worked just fine. My favorite color when I was small was Copenhagen blue. I’ve had many favorite colors since then.

My mother when I was ten decided to try painting a mountain scene. I wanted to do it too, so she gave me a piece of board and let me use her oils. I painted our house. I really liked the way the oil paint blended in the sky of my painting. That’s when I became addicted to art.

When I was twelve I was given a coloring book that had really neat pictures in it. I didn’t want to color in the book, instead I drew identical sketches on separate papers. My older brother accused me of tracing but I quickly showed him that my sketches were larger than the originals. From that I went to drawing horses. I drew horses almost everyday for a year from a book of horses I was given. I loved horses.

In ninth grade I took art and I quickly became my teachers favorite. I’d never been a teachers favorite before and wasn’t sure about it. Art though was my favorite class and the teacher encouraged me to enter my pieces in competitions. I enjoyed doing this and soon had a whole slue of blue ribbons. I graduated from high school with an art scholarship to college. My favorite class in college was oil painting. I took it from Leon Parsons and really enjoyed his classes. Within a week though I found myself bombarded by the other students as they asked me for my advice on how to do art. When I was given a B in the class instead of an A I quickly pointed out to the professor that I had produced more art pieces at better quality than anyone else in class. His reply was that he had given me the B because I had the potential to do much more.

Through the years I have enjoyed using my talents to give gifts to my family and friends. I have never made any money to speak of from my hobby and so I agree with Leon Parsons, I deserve a B for I have never reached my potential. Life tends to get in my way of achieving my dreams. However I am still plugging away and one day I hope to achieve success.

Some of my favorite paintings I have done are those I have given my loved ones. I gave my grandmother a country scene of a cabin and I feel much fulfillment in knowing that she enjoyed it. I gave my brother a drawing of his daughters and knowing that I gave that to him gives me comfort now that he has passed away. Perhaps one day I shall paint a painting that will brighten your day as well.
