He is risen
Jesus of Nazareth was hung on a cross.
His disciples, bewildered, believed all was lost.
They thought that the Savior had left them alone,
But He died just to save them, for their sins to atone.
And not just for them, but for the sins of us all
Who believe in the Word, who answered the call.
In a borrowed sepulcher they laid Him down, dead.
The grave clothes were wound round His body and head.
They sealed up that tomb with a massive old stone,
Then left for the Sabbath, leaving Jesus alone.
For three days He suffered the torment of sin,
So we could be righteous before God again.
After the Sabbath some women who mourned
Took spices and herbs to the tomb to adorn
The body of Him whom they loved and respected.
They looked in amazement at a scene unexpected.
The great stone had been rolled away from that place
And the sight they beheld brought great fear to their face.
The grave clothes were there, all piled up in a mound,
But the body of Jesus was not to be found.
They saw there an angel with the face of a youth,
They ran out, astonished, as he told them the truth;
He is risen
