Wayne Chambers was a three year Letterman at the University of Oklahoma. As a linebacker, Wayne demonstrated his ability to execute remarkable plays, which contributed to the Sooners triumph at the 2002 and 2004 Big-12 Championship games. His athletic achievements extend beyond the line of scrimmage, as he also played for two National Titles in 2004 and 2005.
Chambers was a featured player on one of the strongest teams in college football. With three BCS Bowl’s under his belt, his football journey plays out like the story of any great athlete. Chambers was sidelined by injury, and his playing career was fulfilled by the end of a third season. Chambers proudly took part in accomplishing an over satisfying 36-5 record.
Wayne sharpened his student coaching skills while working under the direction of Oklahoma’s Head Coach, Bob Stoops and Defensive Coordinator, Brent Venables. In addition to his defensive line training, Wayne learned the methods of offense, by studying other greats like, Kevin Wilson, Jay Norvel, and Josh Heupel. Chambers indulged in these opportunities and highlights the time he spent shadowing Sooners Assistant Coach, Jackie Shipp.
The coach matured in his profession during a three season stretch with Oklahoma. His assignment while on the Sooners staff supported a Fiesta Bowl appearance, a Holiday Bowl win, a Sun Bowl win, and one national championship game. Chambers left the university with an impressive 50-17 win-loss record.
Currently, Coach Chambers is working as an Assistant coach for Missouri State University . His primary focus still dwells within the defense, tailoring to the needs of the MoState linebackers. He grooms the Bears daily, evaluates the competition, and sets the squad up for success.
Wayne’s list of coaching responsibilities also includes tending to special teams. His legendary recognition commands his involvement in off-campus recruiting efforts, by targeting the surrounding areas in search of the next champion.
