What the Bible Has to Say About Our Financial Concerns

I’ve known a lot of people who have been worried about their finances lately. The economy has been soft; people are losing their jobs; it has just been hard. I myself have had financial concerns, and have even lost sleep over it. As I have tossed and turned, these Bible verses have come to mind, and have helped me realize that we don’t need to worry about these matters; God is in control.

Psalm 37:25 I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging for bread.

If we are seeking to do the right thing, and act in integrity, and live in a way that is pleasing to God, then he is not going to forsake us. We can have confidence in this. We may have hardship, but we are not going to be forsaken! This has been a help to me on many sleepless nights.

Matthew 6:31-32
Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

If our Father knows we need these things, is he going to let us do without? We can depend on him to meet our needs, and to look after us. He is not an absentee Father; he will help us in our time of need.

Psalms 23 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

This is a verse that has come to mind many anxious moments. I will not do without what I need if the Lord is really my shepherd. The simplicity of this verse is just wonderful.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy

God is our provider. He supplies us with all things to enjoy. The economy may be soft now, but money always was uncertain; God always is our provider and our help and strength. He is our constant.

Psalms 37:4-5, Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

I have loved this Bible verse from my teen years, and I believe it. If we do delight ourselves in God, then we will get the desires of our heart and he will bring it to pass.

These verses have been a great inspiration to me lately. I hope you have found these verses a source of inspiration to you as well.
